Philippine Shooting Team Match Results AASAM 2014

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – After successfully defending their place in the Team Champion Shot Match, the Philippine Army Shooting Team received the Commander-In-Chief trophy, the most coveted trophy in the recently concluded Australian Army Skills at Arms Meeting (AASAM) held at the Combined Arms Training Center, Puckapunyal Military Area, Victoria, Australia from April 28 to May 18.

The 18-man contingent, headed by Lt Col Palmer M Parungao also won a total of 14 gold medals, 56 silver medals and two (2) bronze medals in the AASAM team matches.

The Philippine Army Shooting Team competed in different categories including the Rifle Match, Pistol Match, and Machine Gun for individuals and teams, and combined arms comprised of rifles and machine guns for teams.

Among the competing countries are the Australia, Brunei, New Zealand, United States Marine Corps, United States Army, United Kingdom, Tonga, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, Canada, and France.

Philippine Army contingent will be expected to arrive in Manila on Monday, May 19.

AASAM is an annual shooting competition among the different units of the Australian Army aimed to showcase the marksmanship skills of the participating teams. It likewise serves as a venue to exchange techniques and learn from each other.

With this result, the Philippine Army proved to have very high marksmanship skill Army shooters making it equal to other Armies, not just in the ASEAN region, but in the world.

Marksmanship skill is one of the basic skills a world class soldier has to possess in order to gain respect from soldiers of other countries. In line with the vision of the Army Transformation Roadmap (ATR) of becoming a world class army, excellence in marksmanship is being emphasized by the Philippine Army in all phases of training.
